Blow up

If you blow something up, you fill it with air or gas

E.g. We blew up lots of balloons and hung them around the room.

Turn up

If you turn something up, you increase the amount of sound, heat, or light of a machine

E.g. Can you turn the volume up a bit? I barely hear anything!

Blow out

If you blow something out, you use your breath to make a flame stop burning

E.g. He blew out all 23 candles on his birthday cake.

Pull off

If you pull something off, you succeed in doing something that is difficult

E.g. We successfully pulled off a surprise birthday weekend for our mother.

Go out

If you go out, you leave home and go somewhere, especially to do something enjoyable

E.g. For New Year’s Eve, let’s go out to a club.

Dress up

If you dress up, you wear more formal or fancier clothes than you usually wear

E.g. The party is at a nice place, so I will dress up

Hang out

If you hang out, you spend time relaxing, usually with friends

E.g. Instead of a big party, I’ll invite a few friends to hang out at my house

Pick up

If you pick someone up, you meet them at their home to go somewhere, often in a car

E.g. The party is at 8:00, so I’ll pick you up at 7:30.

Eat out

If you eat out, you eat in a restaurant

E.g. It’s the holiday season so I will be eating out a lot.
